Royal Melbourne Tennis Club
The Royal Melbourne Tennis
Club was founded in 1882, its original site being in Exhibition
Street in the city centre. In 1974, the Club made the
bold and far-sighted move away from Exhibition Street to the
inner city suburb of Richmond, where it built a modern
two court complex, with squash courts, swimming pool
and excellent social facilities. Today, the Club is Australia’s busiest, with a
thriving membership and possibly the strongest playing standard in the world.

Ballarat Tennis Club
Australia was a two-club country for around a hundred
years until the Ballarat Tennis Club opened in 1984. The brainchild of John
Gilbert, the Club came into being when John generously donated land on part of
his Motel Conference Complex (about five minutes from the centre of this
historic Victorian town), on a 99 year lease with a peppercorn rental. John also
donated one of the hotel conference rooms which became the Clubrooms. Today, the
Club is in good health, with an excellent court and growing membership under the
enthusiastic tutelage of Club professional Brett McFarlane.

Sydney Real Tennis Club
Australia’s fourth club, the Sydney Real Tennis Club,
came into being in 1996, with the opening of a fine new court at Macquarie
University. The club is located within the sports centre at the University,
around thirty minutes from the city centre. With former World Champion Wayne
Davies at the helm, SRTC is set for a booming future.

Cope-Williams Real Tennis Club
The country Victorian town
of Romsey is host to Australia’s newest court, the stunningly designed Cope-Williams Real Tennis Club.
Set within the Cope-Williams Winery, the court opened in 1999 and is
the fruit of many years hard labour for winery owner Gordon
Cope-Williams and local tennis aficionado Mike Garnett. The club features possible the best
viewing facilities of any court in the world as well as being uniquely
long and boasting a wooden tambour! The Club’s first pro is the experienced
Rob Bartlett and offers visitors an unbeatable combination of
enjoying both the bottle and the ball in a beautiful setting.
